Volunteers are screened and then matched up with an elderly person that they have common interests with. They then make regular visits to that person. A lot of the elderly don't have family or any way of getting out; so, these volunteers are great company for them.
Little Brothers organized holiday parties, monthly birthday parties, outings such as picnics or mall shopping, day trips (up here they have bus trips to see the colors when the leaves change in the Fall; they take people on fishing excursions, etc.)
Little Brothers currently owns and operates vacation homes in Rochelle, IL and Arden Hills MN. They will take a group of the elderly that doesn't get to go on vacations anymore and take them their for a weeklong vacation of relaxation.
They drive them to their appointments (doctor or whatever), help them with grocery shopping and small household chores, deliver emergency food packages and advocate their rights.
